#3 FINALIST
To be announced 26 November.
- “It is a very aesthetic photograph, the color contrasts are incredible, it seems like a spectacular place, a place everyone dreamed of, I think”
- “This photo is technically quite well worked, although colors should be more realistic.“
#3 Lucas TANAKA
BRASIL 🇧🇷
Lucas Gil Neves, better known as Tanaka.
Brazilian, from the state of MG, is a professional in the audio visual area.
Lover of extreme sports and nature found in canyoning his
newest passion, is new to the sport and has only 3 expeditions.
HOW WAS THE PHOTO TAKEN?:
This photo was taken on October 17, 2020 at the Canyon of Crystals
which is located in the Serra dos Alves region, MG - Brazil.
At the invitation of more experienced friends, this was only my second expedition
in canyoning, a sport that I already feel committed and passionate about.
It was a wonderful feeling to record and make this journey,
he who is surrounded by exuberant beauties of nature, has 5 magical falls,
the last one being the most beautiful, a vertical of 45 meters with a high volume
of water.
#2 FINALIST
To be announced 26 November.
- “Although the photography is not perfect, some fogging, etc, but of course you have to take into account the place of realization and the climatic conditions they have, it is a runaway ravine, water everywhere. It is appreciated how insignificant we canyoneers are in such a hostile environment and that in turn captivates us. It seems that they are going towards the end of the world “
- “The photo highlights the wild moment of the water, in its composition. A pity that the droplets decrease the quality of the photo.”
#2 Daniel PLANELLS MORA
SPAIN 🇪🇸
Canyoning guide, president of the cabres de muntanya canyoning and caving club, coordinator of the canyoning expedition in Albania, coordinator of the Viking Open Canyon expedition, and member of Costa Rica open canyon 2019 and 2020, author of the guide of canyons in Norway region Troms.
Among his canyoning exploration expeditions: Albania 2018, Costa Rica 2019 and 2020 and Norway in 2019 and 2020.
Major descents: Trou de Fer on Reunion Island, Gavarnie waterfall, Trummelbach (Switzerland), Gries (Switzerland), Gamchi (Switzerland), Zammer Loch (Austria).
HOW WAS THE PHOTO TAKEN?:
The Viking Open Canyon team made the first canyoning expedition in Norway. This expedition took place in the Troms region, exactly in the municipality of Birtavarre. Their main objective was to install and review the Gorsa canyon, (the deepest gorge in Northern Europe). There are several tributaries that pour their waters into this gorge, and among them is a majestic waterfall (Gorzi), 150 meters high.
The attack plan that they developed was centered in the first instance on opening the main canyon to later continue with the ravines that flow into it.
Finding yourself rappelling between dark walls over 150 meters high with waterfalls around is a magical sensation, as well as imposing. Recommended for all canyoners who wish to find good and different sensations.
In the Norwegian canyon guide that the "Viking" team has published, these spectacular canyons are listed along with many others that they explored on that expedition.

HOW WAS THE PHOTO TAKEN?:
This photograph was taken on 08/29/2020 in the Caldarés ravine, in Baños de Panticos, Huesca, with Olympus Tough TG-5 camera.
Made during a week-long trip with friends from Malaga to do Pyrenean ravines, such as the Carpín, Navarros, Sorrosal, Aguas Limpias, Forronias, Os Lucas, Estribiella waterfalls, etc.
This week we had tremendous meteorological luck, which allowed us to do 2 ravines a day, being at the end of the summer with a gentle flow, it takes away spectacularity but very productive sports
Barranco del Caldarés, access from the Piedra refuge, in Baños de Panticosa, comfortable path to headwaters by GR 11. Perfect water flow, but very cold water, comfortable rappels, at the base of some of them to combat the cold, two Companions to warm up a bit, at the edge of the pools dance with a good mood to warm up. The photograph is taken in the penultimate rappel, carried out by what is usually called "pine rappelling". The anchor is outside the riverbed to the left so as not to go directly down the water channel, very boxed in, clear from a good pine. My wonderful friend, tremendous ravine, David Prieto tells me that he rides the rope and I can go to photograph from a viewpoint that is opposite. Perfect perspective for photography, panoramic, medium and television shots, but it becomes spectacular when Nuria Carrillo comes down with very good style, good light, Pyrenean landscape and good companions, a perfect formula.
