I am a 22-year-old used to exploring underground cavities dug by man in France (quarry, mine).
I had never before explored a glacier. So I used my usual techniques to take this shot and it worked as I wanted it to.
HOW WAS THE PHOTO TAKEN?:
In February we went with a friend to Switzerland to discover an underground glacier. It was the first time that we discovered one and it was truly spectacular. We didn't expect to see such a large and voluminous cavity made of ice. we stayed a few hours to appreciate the beauty of the place as well as bring back some pictures.
The shot was taken in the highest and most impressive part of the glacier. I just put my camera on a tripod, put the self-timer on and then, placed behind my friend, I ran towards him with a very bright light.

HOW WAS THE PHOTO TAKEN?:
The photo was taken in February 2020 on the second Costa Rica open canyon expedition.
It is the Chindama waterfall. It is one of the most compromised canyons in Costa Rica due to its large amount of flow, the narrowness of its walls and its impossibility of escape during its journey. For this reason, the team invested more than 5 days in its exploration in 2019 and another 3 days in 2020, leaving a small part of the canyon still unexplored.

"I am a member of a photographic group that mainly does underground photography and I voted for this photo because it shows the spatiality of the environment and particularly affects the optical effect of the cone of the waterfall that plunges into the deep blue waters."

I have been practicing speleology for 15 years.
Participated in a lot of cave exploration expeditions.
Most remarkable are in the to the deepest caves in the world (Krubera Voronya Cave (-2199 m) project “Call of The Abyss”, Sistem Illuzia–Snezhnaya-Mezhonnogo (-1760 m) etc) and National Geographic Expedition "Uncharted Caves of Kyrgyzstan". The second passion is canyoning.
HOW WAS THE PHOTO TAKEN?:
The photo was taken at 150 meters rappel of "el Salto del Nervión" the largest waterfall of Spain 222 meters. The conditions were perfect, but when we were descending this rappel, the wind started blowing and the rappel was as a huge shower. Impressive emotions!
